15 July 2024 • Cabernet vs Cabernet

At 9:30 a.m. on Monday 15 July, the Grand Hotel Savoia hosted the conference with tasting Cabernet vs Cabernet, a special focus on Cabernet Sauvignon and Franc, among the best-known and most appreciated grape varieties on the international wine scene. Considered to be at the top of world oenology, Cabernet has also in Italy experienced moments of glory and others of disaffection, but its greatness is evident, being the variety behind the success of some of the world’s most appreciated wines. The dialectic between the two ‘brothers’ is curious: if the Zero years were dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon, the Ten Years saw the meteoric rise of Cabernet Franc. But what are the differences between the two?

We investigated this in oenological and viticultural terms, with the involvement of leading experts in the field, and then put them to the sensory test, tasting excellent versions of one another and some particularly successful alliances between the two during the walk-around tasting (11:00 am-1:30 pm).
